Histoacryl® Pro-Set OFX

Non-traumatic mesh fixation in open hernia repair

The Histoacryl® Pro-Set OFX is a set composed of Histoacryl® glue with an applicator specifically designed for open hernia repair. Histoacryl® Pro-Set OFX now provides a non-traumatic, fast and strong way of mesh fixation in open hernia repair, helping to improve patient outcome in hernia surgery.
Histoacryl® is made of highly purified N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, a fast acting synthetic glue that provides mesh-tissue fixation strength while being more tolerated by the patient compared to traditional fixation methods. Its blue color makes it easy to control the chosen fixation points and the specifically designed applicator allows for proper application of Histoacryl®, even in those areas that can be difficult to access.
Open tension-free inguinal hernia repair using surgical mesh is one of the most common surgical techniques in general surgery. It represents an effective, highly reproducible method correlated with low recurrence and morbidity. However, favorable patient outcome can become jeopardized by post-operative complications, such as neuralgia, irritation, or chronic pain.
A critical factor in the prevention of such complications is the choice of method for fixation of the mesh. Traditional, traumatic fixation methods that involve suturing or tacking may result in local compression, strangulation or damage to muscular fibers and nerves.
